2023 IT Society Fall Picnic
A Sunday afternoon picnic under the redwoods with families and fellow Bay Area tech professionals, with good food, speed networking, and team-building activities.
An afternoon under the redwoods
We spent a sunny Sunday afternoon among the redwoods with members, their families, and Bay Area tech professionals. Long picnic tables, delicious food, and plenty of shade made it an easy place to slow down and get to know each other away from screens and video calls.
Speed networking
Guests were seated at numbered tables and rotated through short rounds of conversation. Each round was a chance to share what you work on, what you're learning, and where you'd like your career to go. It's a low-pressure way to meet many people in one afternoon, and plenty of conversations continued long after the rounds ended.
Team building
Next came a hands-on challenge: using only spaghetti, tape, and a marshmallow, each team raced the clock to build the tallest freestanding tower. It took planning, quick prototyping, and a lot of teamwork, and the results drew plenty of laughs.
