2024 IT Society Spring Dinner
An evening dinner bringing together around 150 IT Society members, their families, and tech professionals from our wider network, with a talk on the road to AGI.
From online to in person
Much of IT Society happens online, through mentoring sessions, focus groups, and mock interviews. The Spring Dinner was our chance to bring those virtual connections into the real world. Around 150 guests joined us, including members, their families, and engineers from our members' networks who were meeting IT Society for the first time.
The evening was put together by our Engagement team with one simple goal: help people feel that they belong to a community, not just a mailing list. Round tables, a shared meal, and plenty of time to talk made it easy to meet new faces and reconnect with familiar ones.
A talk on the road to AGI
After dinner, the room turned toward the screen for a talk on artificial intelligence. It looked at the difference between today's narrow AI, which can beat humans at a single task, and the general intelligence people use every day, and asked what it will take to close that gap.
The talk sparked plenty of questions and kept conversations going at the tables long after the last slide.
Growing the community
Our two big gatherings each year are also how many people first find IT Society. Working with our Growth team, we invited guests from outside our usual circles and shaped the program so newcomers could quickly see what the community offers.
